Corporate Reputation is as important as remuneration when attracting top talent

A new survey by ManpowerGroup Solutions has reported that a company’s brand reputation is as important as the compensation package in the process of attracting the top talent.

25% of respondents placed brand or corporate reputation as one of the top three factors in their career decisions. This highlights the importance of understanding your corporate brand and the key factors that are swaying opinion in the industry.

By also understanding the reputational factors that are affecting you and your competitors, you can carve out a niche for your business. By building a positive reputation around a unique issue you can then compete for top talent against the rivals with more financial resources, or differentiate against close rivals.

It is also vital to not solely focus on the external view of the company’s reputation, but to also consider how your current employees perceive the business. The survey highlighted that 30% of people gather information on prospective employees on social media, with a growing trend among the younger respondents of checking employer review sites.

This shows the importance of understanding how your current employees perceive your company and of trying to link your corporate culture to your wider reputation.

According to alva’s employment index, the Professional Services sector is the top performer for “progressive employment”. This is due to a variety of initiatives in the sector, including increased opportunities for those from disadvantaged backgrounds, looking beyond school qualifications, gender equality, and parental leave policies.
