Hydrogen rankings – the top 50 most visible companies in the UK

Following the invasion of Ukraine, global energy markets were hugely impacted. This led to a surge in interest for new energy sources, such as hydrogen.

Leading on from our analysis of Q1, Penta’s latest report reveals how the top 50 companies in hydrogen discussion in the UK rate on sentiment and visibility over Q2 and Q3 2022.

We look at what has changed over this time, as well as the effect of partnerships and investment on businesses.

Key findings of the report are:

  • Sentiment remains strong amongst the companies, which is reflected in the high average of 46. Bloom Energy and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst are the joint highest scoring, with 63.
  • Johnson Matthey is one of a few companies to place in the sector leadership quadrant owing to widespread discussion of its £400m loan from the UK Government to research hydrogen technologies.
  • Rolls-Royce is the most visible company in the leadership quadrant, earning media praise from The Sunday Times as a company that may “kick-start” the “hydrogen century” in Britain, after announcing it will test engines running on hydrogen.
